The perovskitehyphen;type oxidesLnVO3(Ln=Lahyphen;Lu and Y) containing a trivalent rarehyphen;earth ion and a trivalent vanadium ion were prepared. Magnetic susceptibilities of 15LnVO3were measured in the temperature range 60ndash;300thinsp;deg;K. The measurement for DyVO3was made down to 2thinsp;deg;K, in which the magnetic ordering of the Dy3+ion was found. AllLnVO3except GdVO3were antiferromagnets at low temperature. The paramagnetism of GdVO3persisted down to 60thinsp;deg;K. Most of the materials investigated showed a weak ferromagnetism with an ordering temperature of 88ndash;150thinsp;deg;K.
