Argon sensitizes the radiolysis of propane, presumably by dissociative charge transfer. Hydrogen interferes with the sensitization reaction by serving as a scavenger for Ar+according to the reaction Ar++H2rarr;ArH++H. Sensitization and selfhyphen;inhibition by hydrogen are also considered, and approximate values of the sensitization rate constants are derived from a study of the inhibition processes.
