When new european eu-ops regulations come into force on July 16, it is anticipated that Douglas DC-3 public transport pleasure flights will become a thing of the past. EU-OPS requires all aircraft operated on Commercial Air Transport flights to comply with its requirements, which are more onerous for aircraft having a maximum approved seating configuration of more than 19 passengers. This is irrespective of the aircraft's age, thus bracketing the 1935 DC-3 alongside aircraft designed 70 years later.Among the modifications that DC-3 operators are required to make to comply with EU-OPS are the installation of airborne weather radar, cockpit voice recorder, emergency lighting system, lockable flightdeck door, crew protective breathing equipment and, as the emergency exits have a sill height in excess of 6ft, equipment such as slides at each exit to enable passengers and crew to reach the ground.
