The 3480hyphen;Aring; absorption band of formaldehyde, 0+2v6prime;larr;0, is photographed with linearly polarized radiation in an electrostatic field of 5 kV/cm. From the observed Stark splitting of the lines, this transition is shown to be magnetic dipole in character, in complete accord with the earlier conclusions of Callomon and Innes.
