Service Life Estimation of Rubber Seals

The sealing property of the mechanical-seals is a function of operating time and temperature. Experimentally evaluating the working life is time consuming and uneconomical. It is recommended to estimate sealing life by performing few initial experiments to validate theoretical expressions related to estimation of seal life. In the present study an equation and methodology is proposed for accurate estimation of aging of elastomer at room and/or elevated temperatures. For evaluating the proposed equation and methodology, data from the published literatures are considered. All results are presented.
