Hajj is a big important annual event for the Muslim world, gathering millions of pilgrims. Crowd management is one of the crucial objectives of Hajj managers. We analyze existing systems of Hajj management and show their limitations to capture its specific requirements. Unlike existing systems which put the pilgrim in the center of their models, we show that Hajj is essentially based on pilgrims being grouped together to perform their duties. We show Hajj can be modeled as a mobile ad hoc network. We propose a new approach to design and model Hajj crowd dynamics based on group mobility models of mobile ad hoc networks MANETs.
