摘要

Reliable, efficient and uninterrupted electric power is of paramount importance for rapid development of any nation. In addition, fast and reliable communication system is needed to be in the forefront among the aforementioned systems that are very susceptible to intensive thunderstorm/lightning activities. The intent of this paper is to develop a mathematical model for predicting thunderstorm/lightning activities using geo-coordinate projections; whereby by the latitude and longitude of 28 cities in the northeast zone of Nigeria were used to determine the thunderstorm-days of such cities without using any equipment. This model was written in Matlab script and the predicted thunderstorm-days obtained after simulation was correlated to the measured data collected from Institute of Agriculture Research, Samaru, Zaria, Nigeria.
