摘要

After witnessing a number of accidents, Indian railways came with the concept of crashworthy coaches manufactured using Corten Steel. The mechanical behavior of Corten Steel is important for their analysis. Tensile test, an important standard engineering procedure to characterize properties related to mechanical behavior of materials, is used in the present work. Although the behavior of the material within the elastic limit is of considerable importance, the knowledge beyond elastic limit is also relevant since plastic effects with large deformation takes place in number of manufacturing processes. The present work describes the behavior of Corten Steel beyond elastic limit in elasto- plastic range.
