Experimental Evaluation of Corrosion Rate of Rebars in M25 Concrete with Water Proofing Admixture

Water proofing Admixtures are widely used in concretes to make them impermeable and strong. These admixtures are expected to have their effects on corrosion resistance of reinforcement rods embedded in concrete. In this work, the corrosion rate of Mild Steel rod, Cold Twisted Deformed rod and Thermo Mechanically Treated rod was experimentally studied. Water Proofing Admixture in different percentages namely, 0.50%, 0.75%, 1.00% and 1.25% were added to M25 concrete mixture. Various tests namely, ACI test, LPR test, OCP test and weight loss test were conducted to measure the corrosion rate for a period of 14 months. The corrosion rate is found to be lesser in the case of concrete with 1.25% of water proofing admixture. It is also found that the corrosion resistance of TMT rod is better than that of other rods.
