摘要

Experimental investigation of convective heat transfer and pressure drop of a vertical upcoming liquid flow onto glass beads packed bed is undertaken. Two sizes of glass beads with 6.0 and 14.56mm diameter is considered for conducting experiments at two flow rates and different inlet water temperatures. The steady state temperature distributation along the bed is measured with data logger with 0.1 resolution of p-type thermocouples. The pressure drop, friction factor, local Nusselt number and steady state heat transfer coefficients are calculated. This work is systemically completed on the parametric studies on heat transfer and pressure drop. The heat transfer rate increases by 2.6% (ε = 0.49) and 4.5% ε = 0.387) when compared to bare tube (ε = 1.0). However, the relevant of experimental results are compared with available correlations in literature.
