Laboratory studies in the area of the collagen diseases have been most helpful in the diagnostic establishment of certain syndromes in the field of the collagen diseases. Studies related to the experimental or basic aspects of these diseases will sooner or later establish on firm grounds the concept of auto-immunization in these and related diseases, and will undoubtedly alter the clinical approach to these diseases.
