Distribution of interlaminar stresses and their impact on failure index at the interfaces of a single lap joint (SLJ) made of two cross-ply adherends bonded with epoxy matrix is studied using three dimensional finite element analysis. The problem is modelled in ANSYS software. Geometric nonlinearity is considered in adherends. Critical locations at the interfaces where the failure index is maximum, which leads to initiation of interlaminar failure, are identified.
