In this study conversion of Pongamia de-oiled cake into useful products by pyrolysis were taken into consideration. The particle size of the feed and the temperature of the reaction were the parameters varied. The maximum char yield was 40 wt% for 0.6 mm particle size at a temperature of 350℃. The elemental analysis, SEM, BET surface area analysis, FTIR analysis and calorific values of biochars were determined, chromatographic techniques were used to determine the chemical composition of pyrolysis oil and the physical properties were compared with diesel. The gas composition was analyzed using Gas chromatograph. The high potential of Pongamia de-oiled cake to be used as source of chemicals and as alternative fuels with further necessary treatment can be inferred from the results.
