摘要

This paper presents the determination of the exit temperatures of a 1-2 shell and tube heat exchanger using the Finite Element Method (FEM). Model of the shell and tube heat exchanger was discretised to produce finite elements which was then analysed by considering energy balances within every element to form an n×n matrix of element nodes. The matrix was solved for the exit temperatures using MATLAB. The model was tested with data from five different industrial heat exchangers. The results obtained showed reasonable agreement with the actual exit temperatures.
