摘要

Recently, there has been an increasing number of applications for Wireless Body Sensor Networks (WBSNs) due to the use of advanced wireless telecommunications techniques and activated ubiquitous environments. A WBSN is a network environment in which various types of bio-signals that are created directly or indirectly in or on the body are measured and processed for transmission to monitoring or mobile tools nearby. Currently, the IEEE 802.15.4 Media Access Control (MAC) Protocol, which is based on the principle of First-In First-Out (FIFO), allocates time slots according to the order of requests from each node. However, this means that urgent data may experience increased delay and loss because transmission is attempted without making any distinction between general and urgent data. In order to mitigate this performance degradation, we propose two types of adaptive MAC protocols that allow urgent data in the system to be treated separately from general data. The first proposed protocol reduces the delay of urgent data by giving it priority over general data. The second proposed protocol applies a maximum delay requirement to urgent data in order to reduce loss for both general and urgent data.
