We report for the first time the57Fe Mouml;ssbauer spectrum of the ternary phase Nd2Fe14B, a technologically important new compound which forms the basis for a new class of high performance light rare earthhyphen;iron permanent magnet materials. From single phase powders we deduce the hyperfine parameters of the iron sublattices in the Nd2Fe14B structure. Spectra of highhyphen;energy product ribbons obtained by a rapid quench process confirm that these permanent magnet materials are comprised predominantly of the Nd2Fe14B phase.
