Estimation of model errors in the calibration of viscoelastic material models

In this paper we discuss a posteriori error estimation in the context of parameter identification problems. In particular, we pay attention to the errors arising from the discretization of the parameters. which is perceived as a model error. A previously developed method for goal-oriented a posteriori error estimation is employed for two fundamentally different types of model hierarchies. The numerical results show rather good agreement between estimated and actual errors. Copyright (C) 2008 John Wiley & Sons. Ltd.
