Preparation and Magnetic Properties of Ni-Zn Magnetic Fluid

Ni_(1-x)Zn_xFe_2O_4 (with x varying from 0 to 0.7) nano particles to be used for ferrofluid preparation were prepared by chemical co-precipitation method. The fine particles were suitably dispersed in transformer oil using oleic acid as the surfactant. The magnetization (Ms) and the size of the particles were measured at room temperature. The magnetization (Ms) was found to decrease with the increase in zinc substitution. The magnetic particle size (D_m) of the fluid was found to vary from 8.85 - 7.11nm decreasing with the increase in zinc substitution. The results of FTIR spectra for ferrofluid indicate the presence of the adsorbed water molecules and Me-0 vibrations.
