NARSA Staff Member Serves in Iraq - NARSA doesn't say good-bye to Nancy Affano, just 'See you later'

This March, NARSA had to say goodbye-albeit temporarily-to a person many of you are familiar with. Nancy Alfano has served as NARSA's Membership Services Coordinator since February 2006 and is temporarily leaving her position to serve in the Iraq war. As part of the Army National Guard, this will be Alfano's second tour and may last as long as a year. After joining the the army in high school at the age of 17, she did pre-basic training and upon graduation in 2002 went to basic training. When asked why she joined she says, "I got into it because I wanted to do everything myself-I didn't want to owe anybody anything." After completing basic training she served one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer. She was activated in 2004 and went to Iraq for the first time for an 18-month tour from June 2004 to November 2005.
