For the first three seasons after the buyout, BSC and BTGCA had devoted considerable support to several private warehouses that wanted to continue conducting burley auctions, said Finch. But after the 2007 season, the co-operative withdrew its support of auctions because of the poor industry support, and no auctions were held in the BSC states for the 2007 crop. But a few were held in Kentucky, even though BTGCA withdrew its financial support also. Warehouse operators in Mt Stirling, Danville and Lexington decided to conduct auctions, albeit on a small scale. At the time of the conference, Furnish said that perhaps one to 1,5mn Ib had been sold at the auctions with a price in the $1.45 per pound range.
