The concentration of the Tb{sup}(3+) ions in wide bandgap KY{sub}3F{sub}10 crystals was measured by the vibrating sample magnetometry method with 0.1 accuracy. The host crystal exhibits a diamagnetic response, while the Tb{sup}(3+) ions have paramagnetic response to external magnetic fields in the 4f{sup}8 electronic configuration. In addition, vacuum ultraviolet coherent excitation of the 4f{sup}7 5d electronic configuration enhances the magnetic moment of the 4f{sup}7 5d electronic configuration in comparison to the magnetic moment of the 4f{sup}8 electronic configuration within the lifetime of the 4f{sup}7 5d levels.
