Laser excited Raman spectra of 1,1,1hyphen;trifluorohyphen;2,2,2hyphen;trichloroethane have been studied in detail using laser sources, and new data have been obtained. The spectra show eight new Raman bands. Out of these eight bands one band at 659 cmminus;1(rgr;sime;0) has been assigned as the CF3deformation fundamental vibration of speciesA1. The other bands at 61, 92, 202, 232, 287, 476, and 518 cmminus;1have been interpreted as combinations of the assigned fundamentals. The Raman band at 61 cmminus;1(rgr;sime;0.43), being interpreted as 2times;ngr;6equals;61 cmminus;1(A1), predicts a value of 30.5 cmminus;1for the torsional frequency of this molecule, which corresponds to a cosine potential barrier of aproximately 1260 calsol;molecule.
