摘要

The impact of magnetic treatment of low quality irrigation water on the growth parameters of cow pea and on properties of water was examined. The treatments tried are normal water, Hard water 150 and 300 ppm, Saline water 500,1000 and 2000 ppm of bothcontrol and magnet treated solutions, respectively. Two permanent magnets with the strength of 1800-2000 gauss were used. The results showed that magnetic treatment of irrigation water types led to an improved germination per cent in cow pea. The improvement was in the range of 7.1 % to 166.7 % in magnetic treated solutions compared to control solutions. Growth parameters results showed that, irrespective of solution type, all the magnetic treatments of irrigation water solutions significantly increased the stem and root length than that of control solutions. With respect to water properties, magnetic treatment tends to reduce EC, TDS and salinity levels of all solutions except normal irrigation water, whereas a definite trend of increase in pH was noticed for all the treatments. The spectral analysis established that magnetic fields influences the properties of water and confirms the change in the distribution of molecules and electrons. These results indicated the beneficial effect of magneticallytreated irrigation water on growth of cowpea and in the microscopic properties of water.
