The clinical and consumer media presents a dialogue concerning, not only current practices in blood glucose monitoring (e.g. should this be intensive or standard in model?) but also models of treatment options with varied outcomes. There appears to be little evidence supporting the intensity with which blood glucose monitoring is conducted and levels achieved. Evaluation in clinical trials and reviews tend to relate blood glucose levels over a period of time to macro and microvascular events and other comorbidities. Perhaps with greater specialist nurse involvement, evidence, as it emerges, could encourage long-term nurse-patient dialogue.
