Metamitron activity in tolerant and susceptible plants

AbstractThe herbicidal activity of metamitron, its inhibition of photosynthesis and its metabolism were studied in a number of plant species. An enzymic, light‐independent deamination produces an inactive metabolite. Metabolism is rapid in plants tolerant to metamitron, e.g. Mercurialis annua and particularly sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.), but slower in susceptible plants, e.g. Amaranthus retroflexu
