VOLKSWAGEN HAS ONCE AGAIN carved a sleek, sporty coupe from its blocky bunny, resurrecting the Scirocco nameplate for its new, Rabbit-derived two-door coupe. The original Scirocco made its debut in 1974, was redesigned for 1982, and after a one-year absence, was replaced in 1990 by the Corrado, which lasted in the U.S. until 1994. The new Scirocco finally ends VW's sport-coupe drought after more than a decade. It not only takes the original name but also follows the original blueprint, putting a low-slung two-door body on a Rabbit/Golf chassis that's been upgraded for sportier handling.
