The transmission properties of singlehyphen;heterostructure GaAshyphen;AlxGa1minus;xAs rib waveguides (RWG) clad with thin anodized oxides (0ndash;200 Aring;) covered by gold (MOS structures) are investigated both theoretically and experimentally. Efficient polarizers having extinction ratios of 35 dB and insertion losses 1 dB can be achieved with short (250 mgr;m) polarizing sections. Details of attenuation characteristics depend on the dielectric constants and can be used to investigate the dielectric interface properties of MOS structure.
