摘要

The II International Symposiumon the Andean Bear was held at theMiraflores Campus of the UniversidadPeruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru, 10-12 November 2008.Twenty years have passed since theI International Symposium on theSpectacled Bear was held at LincolnPark Zoological Gardens, in Chicago,Illinois, in 1988. The goals of the ISymposium were to gather a largevolume of information on the Spec-tacled bear (now widely called Andeanbear) by bringing together individualsfrom various countries; appraisethe role of field researchers and zoomanagers in the conservation of the Andean bear; raised new questions,develop alliances and pursue newchallenges. Through the publica-tion of the proceedings the need forresearch and conservation for thisspecies was publicized. The proceed-ings of the I International Symposiumon the Spectacled Bear included 10manuscripts on field projects plus16 on captivity projects: the largestamount of Andean bear literature evergathered.
