Somatotrophin has profound metabolic effects on the skeleton. Characteristic effects on skeletal scintigraphy are predictable, but acromegaly is rare. A review of medical periodicals failed to reveal a previously recorded bone scan in acromegaly, but a single case was found in a textbook. The authors present the results of a bone scan that was obtained to evaluate potential skeletal metastasis in a young adult with pituitary chromophobe adenocarcinoma causing acromegaly.
