In the process of the electrohyphen;optical investigation of the concentrated PBLG solutions with various concentrations, semimacroscopic inhomogeneity of the molecular alignment and the dynamic movement of the solution under the dc electric field were observed by use of a polarizing microscope with crossed polarizers. In order to clarify these phenomena in detail, the transient electric birefringence under a long dc electric pulse at various positions in the solutions was measured using a very thin light beam. The typical electric birefringence signal consists of three peaks. The appearance time of the first peak was independent of the position in the solution, but the second peak was propagated from the cathode to the anode. Results were interpreted in conjunction with the effect of the space charge injected from the electrodes on the electrical property of PBLG molecule. Different types of the migration of the space charge were noted.
