The absorption spectrum of the 1,2,4,5hyphen;tetrachlorobenzene vapor lying in the wavelength region between 3040 and 2650 A was photographed and measured. The band at 34 149 cmmdash;1is assigned as the 0,0 band. The progression with frequency intervals of 1134 cmmdash;1starts from the stronger bands. Most of the prominent bands are assigned to progressions or combinations of the possible fundamental frequencies. The fundamental frequencies are compared with the Raman values. A tentative assignment of the fundamental frequencies is discussed. The change of the molecular structure in the course of the electronic transition is also discussed.
