According To Economist Intelligence Unit figures, Mitsubishi has the most productive car plant in the world, at Mizushima, where its small-medium cars are built. Also in the top five is the company's Okazaki plant, with 111 cars produced per employee per annum. Here, Mitsubishi builds its executive cars, including the new, third generation Space Wagon. The new MPV will be built in volumes of around 70,000 units per annum, an ncrease of 8,000 units over the outgoing model. Mitsubishi has introduced a new "mid-term management plan" known as RM2001 to improve further, it hopes, production efficiency. In the medium term productivity and efficiency levels should also be bettered'by a rationalisation of platforms, vehicle variations and trim levels. The third generation Space Wagon is an all-new model rather than a facelift of the second series car that debuted in 1991. Body design has become more angular to maximise interior space and load capacity.
