In order to make an interpretation, we often apply histogram modification techniques to low contrast multichannel signals. Thus, the histogram modification is useful in numerous applications, such as the analysis of reconnaissance images, remote sensing, and indestrial inspection. Histogram processing of color images is usually performed by iodependent processing of three components (e.g., R, G, and B signals or Y, I, and Q signals). However, because 1-D histograms do not define a unique 3-D histogram, independent processing of components is unlikely to produce output approximating me full extent of the RGB gamut. Recently, Mlsna proposed the histogram explosion (HE) technique mat performs full multidimentional processing and procedures output signal whose histograms approach the full display gamut. To me case of me HE method, we need high computational cost, since it is necessary to calculate the transform functions for all color components independently. In this paper, in order to conquer the defect of the computational effort of the HE technique, we propose a simplified HE (SHE) method for 2-channel signals. The proposed method realizes the reduction of computation. Furthermore we extend me SHE method to color images with HSI color apace. The proposed histogram modification method for color images performs the "I" component and me "HS" plane independently.
