The climate debate is heated. One of the key questions concerns sustainable levels of forest felling, with views presented in favour of both increased and reduced felling. In this debate,it feels that at times we fail to see the bigger picture of the global challenge facing us.Along the same lines run the thoughts of Pet-teri Taalas,Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization(WMO)operating under the UN,the previous Director General of the Finnish Meteorological Institute and an undisputed expert in climate change.Taalas’s status in climate matters is further demonstrated by the fact that he is the UN’s so-called Climate Principal.
