A jam tolerant mechanical actuator was studied as one of the theme of a contract research which the Ministry of International Trade and Industry committed to JADC (Japan Aircraft Development Corp.). In the study, a jam tolerant mechanical actuator which possesses two power transmission passes consisted of planetary gears was planned, as a result of the case study on actuator elements. The feasibility of the mechanism was investigated by the dynamic simulation analysis. Prior to the simulation, important parameters were obtained by a prototype test, and accuracy of the simulation was improved by incorporating the prototype test results. As a result of simulation for jamming, it was confirmed that the gear ratio of the actuator is kept constant and can be operated normaly.
