Alcoa given green light to expand Wagerup alumina refinery, Australia

Alcoa has been given approval to begin expanding its Wagerup alumina refinery in Western Australia. The government last week gave formal environmental approval to the project, which will see alumina production rise to 4.7 million tpy from 2.6 million tpy, Alcoa said. Alcoa will now begin detailed engineering and design work for the expansion, which should take around twelve months to complete, it said.
