The cherry blossoms start popping out in Okinawa in late January and gradually advance up the archipelago as spring arrives in Kyushu, Shikoku, Honshu, and finally Hokkaido in May," said photographer Ben Simmons. "Partying under the fleetingly beautiful pink petals is a revered tradition, and many revelers go all night." Simmons, who has chased the fragrant blooms across the country, lives his life through the lens of his camera. Working half the year in exotic locations all over the world, and the other half in exotic Tokyo, Simmons becomes "one" with the lives and the countryside he portrays—shooting from the inside out, rather than like an outsider.
