Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the letter entitled 'TRPM7 and its potential therapeutic target for periodontal diseases: beyond its role in the dental pulp repair process'. The letter points out a potential relationship between TRPM7 and periodontal diseases. TRPM7 is a potent regulator of calcium and magnesium ion balance that is important for maintaining bone mineral homeostasis. Bone loss is one of the hallmarks of periodontitis and we agree thatTRPM7 is possibly involved in the development of periodontitis.
