This paper discusses the use of action learning to improve the management of moderate pain in the Emergency Department (ED) of a large adult hospital. It addresses two specific issues. The first is the failure to treat pain promptly in EDs and the second is the introduction of action learning sets as a means of using an interdisciplinary approach to improving the time to treatment for patients with moderate pain.
