RESEARCH PROBLEM - Cotton response to postemergence over-the-top applications of the herbicide Envoke~(TM) (trifloxysulfuron) has been erratic in Arkansas (Kelley et al., 2004), and field studies were initiated to determine the effects of temperatureand soil moisture on cotton response to Envoke. Injury from Envoke is usually manifested as chlorosis, growth inhibition, or necrosis, all typical injury from ALS-inhibiting herbicides (Porterfield et al., 2002). Barrentine et al. (2001) reported that visual injury and cotton growth and development are not always correlated. COTMAN (Cotton Management Expert System Software), a crop information system based on in-season plant monitoring, has been used in an attempt to characterize the effects of Envoke on cotton growth and development (Barrentine et al., 2004).
