NUMBER OF SQUFNITS IN A BIQUADRATIC FIELD

LetUbe the full unit group in the biquadratic field #x211A;(#x221A;c, #x221A;d, #x221A;e) wherecanddare square free integers andeis the square free part ofcd. LetHbe the unit group generated by the fundamental units of #x211A;(#x221A;c), #x211A;(#x221A;d) and #x211A;(#x221A;e). The objective of this paper is to show that the group index U: H is not divisible by 8.
