A computer model based on thermodynamic principles was used toinvestigate the speciation of aluminum in acidic natural waterequilibria with mineral phase kaolinite. Compared to the case ofequilibria with gibbsite, it was found that dissolved silica, fluoride ion and organic ligands influenced the aluminum speciationremarkably, while the concentrations of polymeric aluminum-hydroxospecies were insignificant. The equilibrium of soluble aluminum withkaolinite was two orders lower in magnitude than the equilibrium withgibbsite.
