Scottish environment secretary Richard Lochhead plans to introduce a formal food waste reduction target for the country - said to be the first in Europe. Lochhead told the Scottish Resources Conference in Glasgow that the country's avoidable food waste had reduced by 30,000 tonnes a year (7.7) since 2009. Household food waste overall had dropped by 37,000 tonnes a year (5.7) in this time, saving households 9.2m pounds ayear.
