On fluid circulation around null-flux curves at earth's core-mantle boundary

Under appropriate fluid dynamic assumptions the #x201C;null-flux curves#x201D; of Backus are sites of accelerated, horizontal geostrophic (rather than magnetostrophic) flow just inside earth's core-mantle boundary. Therefore, the fluid circulation around such curves evolves in time according to the Bjerknes circulation theorem. Some geophysical implications are noted.
