Bridgestone Americas break ground on new Guayule Biorubber Process Research Center

Having first made its interest in a little-known perennial shrub called guayule (pronounced why-u-lee) as a potential alternative natural source for rubber known a year ago, Bridgestone Americas Inc. (BSA) has now announced the groundbreaking of its Biorubber Process Research Center. Native to the southwestern US and northern Mexico, the plant produces natural rubber (NR) in its bark and roots, which has almost identical qualities to that harvested from the Hevea tree, which currently is the primary source for the NR used in tire production.
