The histopathological examination of the visceral organs revealed congestion, hyper-plasia, mononuclear infiltration, fibrinous exudate and Koch's blue bodies in the lymphnodes. The abomaium showed degenerative and desquamatory changes. There were areas of ulcerations in the mucosa along with laminapropria. Marked infiltration of mononuclear cells and a few plasma cells in the submucosa was also observed. The ulcerative areas were infiltrated with macrophages, menonuclear and a few polymorphonuclearcells. Proliferation of fibriaous tissue was also observed. The liver capsule was thickened and the hepatic cells showed degeneration and necrosis. There was accumulation of serous fluid in the portal triads. Hepatic parenchyma showed focal infiltrationof mononuclear cells. The spleen was much damaged and its red pulp was highly congested. Haemorrhages and large quantity of blood pigment were also seen. Lymphoid hyperplasia and Koch's blue bodies were also seen in this organ. Lungs of calves infected with Theilena annulata showed the presence of serous fluid. The interlobular septa were thickened. The bronchial epithelium showed degenerative and necrotic changes and hyperplasia of epithelial cells. There was congestion, emphysema and atelectasis. Congestion, haemorrhages and mononuclear infiltration were also frequent. Kidney revealed degenerative and necrotic changes. Glomeruli showed degeneration and atrophy. Gordcomedullary junction showed congestion and haemorrhages. There were mononuclear infiltration and proliferation of fibrinous tissue. The brain of the infected calves revealed degeneration, chromatolysis, setellitosis and neuronophagia. The proliferation of glial cells was also observed.
