MASTITIS, METRITIS AND AGALACTIA SYNDROME IN SOWS

Mastitis metritis and agalactia (MMA) syndrome is one of the important reproductive disorders of sow, which usually occurs within 12 to 48 hours.after farrowing. The syndrome is clinically characterized by anorexia, lethargy, disinterest in piglets, fever, swelling of mammary glands and agalactia (Blood and Radostits, 1989). MMA syndrome causes heavy economic losses to pig industry by increasing neo-natal mortality and by delaying conception after farrowing, although the mortality of the affected sowtf is very less. The present study reports two cases of MMA syndrome in crossbred sows.
