BREED SPECIFIC ALLELES OF MICROSATELLITES IN THREE SOUTH INDIAN CATTLE BREEDS

Microsatellites are today replacing other types of markers because of their abundance, highly polymorphic nature and simplicity in experimentation. Though microsatellites are being routinely used to characterize the better individuals and breeds among cattle population worldwide, in India the work of microsatellites in cattle is in its initial stages. Present study was undertaken to see the usefulness of microsatellites in the characterization of South Indian cattle breeds.
