IDIOSYNCRACY TO VITAMIN-A IN A DOG AND ITS MANAGEMENT

Vitamin-A (Retinol) is a organic alcohol formed in animal tissues from various plant carotenoids. Since it is a fat soluble vitamin, it has various functions. Vitamin-A could be regarded as a hormone instead of vitamin since it is secreated into the blood stream causing metabolic alterationi in target tissue. (Wolf & Delueca 1970). Vitamin A is known to maintain normal structure and function of epithelial cells. There is wide degree of sensitization of epithelial ceils to vitamin-A. The other function is to support osteoblastic activity and bone growth.
