Models have been proposed for smooth pursuit oculomotor control because it is a peculiar oculomotor control for humans and monkeys. However, there is no model which is computationally sound to describe how humans and monkeys can smoothly pursuit not only constant velocity motion but sinusoidal motion or more complicated motion regardless of the delay in. the visual feedback pathway., Our computational model enables smooth pursuit of arbitrary periodic motion of a visual target based on on-line learning of the dynamics of a visual target. Our model also supports the idea that the MST area, which has been considered to play an important role for smooth pursuit, may predict the trajectory of a visual target. We demonstrate the feasibility of our model through not only simulations but also robotic experiments.
